Margurita Serradella | Serradella is a winter dominant, deep rooted, hard seeded annual legume with increased persistence. Growing mainly during the Autumn, Winter, and Spring months and is well adapted to a wide range of soil types including acidic and infertile sands. Being a legume, it provides nitrogen fixation to improve the soil quality improving soil organic matter, phosphorus and potassium availability, and has deeper roots, increasing resilience to dry seasons. An excellent high quality, palatable forage and feed, especially for cattle and sheep. |
Arrowleaf clover growth, deep rooting ability to access subsoil moisture and provides a valuable high- quality forage, producing feed into late spring and summer. Adaptable to most soil types except saline and high alkaline, this bloat free legume will produce large white flowers that turn pink as it matures producing a high percentage of hard seed that if allowed to seed set will successfully self-regenerate. The combination of early and later flowering aerial seeded and subterranean clovers in this mix will give a good spread of production extending the growing season and flowering. |

About this variety
Nitro Mix is an Irwin Hunter blend built on a simple proposition: grow more, input less, and regenerate the soil while doing it.
The mix relies on biological nitrogen fixation rather than bought-in nitrogen. Legumes in association with the right rhizobia take nitrogen from the air and fix it into the soil, and a blend weighted towards that function reduces the synthetic fertiliser a paddock needs while building fertility rather than drawing it down.
Reducing reliance on synthetic nitrogen matters on two fronts. It is a direct saving on a significant input cost, and it moves the system towards one where soil biology and structure improve season on season instead of degrading.
Alongside the nitrogen, the mix improves soil structure and biological activity, which lifts water holding capacity and nutrient availability over time.
Nitro Mix suits growers moving towards a regenerative approach, or anyone looking to cut fertiliser costs without giving up production, and it can be grazed or worked in depending on the objective.
Planting & grazing notes
Do not graze for 4-6 months after planting (8 months on sandy soils); refrain from cutting for hay in first year; rotational/strip grazing recommended. With its upright growth habit, it provides good grazing and hay potential as well as increasing biomass levels in the mix. Produces a high-quality, palatable feed into late spring and can be used for grazing, silage and hay.
Disease & pest resistance
This promotes healthy strong root development, growth and productivity, soil biodiversity and strengthens the plants resistance to negative factors including drought. Paradana Balansa Clover is a hardy, self-regenerating annual well suited to medium–high rainfall zones with a strong tolerance to waterlogging and resistance to clover scorch. Riverina is known for excellent autumn/winter growth, superior resistance to root rot and its high hard seed content, making it a popular choice in medium-to-high rainfall (450mm+) zones with acidic soils.
Stand life
Paradana Balansa has high hard-seed content for reliable regeneration; Margurita Serradella is hard-seeded with increased persistence; Riverina Subterranean Clover has high hard seed content. This semi-erect, mid-maturing variety has a high hard-seed content for reliable regeneration, delivering strong spring growth and good hay production with high protein content and good nitrogen fixation, though initial establishment can be slow in cool weather. Marguerita Serradella is a winter dominant, deep rooted, hard seeded annual legume with increased persistence.
